Homa Bay Town Member of Parliament Peter Kaluma has made explosive revelations linking former President Uhuru Kenyatta to the deadly chaos that erupted in Homa Bay Town on Sunday during a Linda Mwananchi rally that left one police officer dead and dozens of people nursing serious injuries.
What was supposed to be a peaceful political rally descended into bloody mayhem when goons allegedly hired by Kaluma and Homa Bay County Governor Gladys Wanga came face to face with Linda Mwananchi supporters. The ensuing confrontation turned brutal, with one police officer losing his life and over 52 people being rushed to hospital with injuries sustained from machetes, stones and rungus.
Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Kaluma, who is himself on the Directorate of Criminal Investigations’ radar over allegations that he financed goons to attack Linda Mwananchi leaders, attempted to shift the narrative by pointing fingers at the other side. He claimed that the violence was equally fuelled by goons financed by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and former President Uhuru Kenyatta, alleging specifically that Uhuru channelled Sh100 million to Linda Mwananchi leaders to bankroll the chaos and destruction witnessed in Homa Bay County.
Kaluma also accused Gachagua of deploying his personal bodyguards to cause violence and death in the county, a claim Gachagua has flatly rejected.
Uhuru has remained conspicuously silent on the allegations, offering no public response to Kaluma’s claims. Gachagua, however, has not held back. The former Deputy President has consistently maintained that Kaluma and Governor Wanga are the true architects of the violence, alleging that the two were handed money by President William Ruto and used it to pay individual goons between Sh2,000 and Sh4,000 each to cause anarchy and destruction in Homa Bay.
With Kaluma blaming Gachagua and Uhuru, Gachagua blaming Kaluma and Wanga, and Uhuru saying nothing at all, one thing remains painfully clear. A police officer is dead, over fifty people are recovering from machete wounds, and the politicians responsible are busy pointing fingers at each other while justice stands still.
