Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi has broken his silence after the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate suffered a humiliating defeat in the hotly contested Ol Kalou by-election.
In a statement shared on his X account, Sudi congratulated the winner, Hon. Sammy Kamau Waweru, for emerging victorious and also praised UDA candidate Samuel Muchinah Nyagah for putting up a spirited campaign.
“I want to congratulate Hon. Sammy Kamau Waweru for winning the Ol Kalou by-election. Thumbs up also to Samuel Muchinah Nyagah for a well-fought race. I was on the ground, and I respect the decision made by the people of Ol Kalou,” Sudi wrote.
The outspoken MP, who actively campaigned for the UDA candidate ahead of the poll, urged residents to embrace unity and move forward following the election.
Sudi also sought to reassure supporters from the Mt. Kenya region that they remain an integral part of President William Ruto’s administration despite the by-election setback.
“This administration of President William Ruto was formed by the people of Murima, and they are still part of this Government. Now, my people, let us move forward,” he added.
His remarks came after the by-election delivered a major political setback to the ruling UDA party, with opposition-backed Sammy Kamau Waweru clinching the seat despite an intensive campaign by senior Kenya Kwanza leaders.
The Ol Kalou by-election attracted national attention, with leaders from both the Kenya Kwanza and opposition camps crisscrossing the constituency in a bid to sway voters, making the contest a key test of political influence in the vote-rich Mt. Kenya region.
