Tension gripped the DC area in Makina Ward on Saturday afternoon after a blood-stained sack discovered inside a trench sparked fears that it contained a human body.
The sack, which was found just a few metres from Kibera Police Station and next to the entrance of the GSU Camp in Kibera, caught the attention of a concerned resident who noticed blood seeping from it.
Suspecting foul play, the resident immediately alerted officers at Kibera Police Station as well as GSU personnel stationed nearby.
Within minutes, word spread across the neighbourhood, with rumours circulating that a body had been dumped inside the sack.
Large crowds gathered at the scene, bringing traffic to a standstill as vehicles struggled to pass along the busy road.
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) were called to assess the situation.
After documenting the scene and photographing the suspicious sack, officers prepared to have it opened as anxious residents watched closely.
A volunteer wearing protective gloves carefully untied the sack.
Moments later, he shouted, “Ni mbwa!” (It’s a dog!), bringing an end to the tense speculation.
As the contents became clear, the crowd dispersed, with many residents expressing relief after what had initially appeared to be a possible murder scene.
