Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka has alleged that armed youths who disrupted a meeting involving Linda Mwananchi leaders in Keumbu, Kisii County, had been at a police station before the attack.
Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV, Onyonka claimed the group was at the police station together with police officers before the leaders arrived for their meeting.
According to the senator, the youths were armed at the time.
During the interview, Citizen TV host Sam Gituku sought clarification on the serious allegation.
“The armed youth in Keumbu were sitting at the police station with the police officers until we arrived,” Onyonka claimed.
When asked by the host, “With weapons?” the senator replied, “Yes, it’s a fact.”
The attack occurred on Friday when a group of youths disrupted the Linda Mwananchi convoy, unleashing violence that forced the leaders to flee.
Videos captured during the incident show vehicles speeding away as stones were hurled at the convoy.
So far, eight suspects have been arrested in connection with the violence.
Detectives investigating the incident have also summoned Nyaribari Chache MP Zaheer Jhanda to record a statement as part of the ongoing probe.
