Ewuaso Oonkindongi Member of County Assembly (MCA) Hon. Joseph Ole Torris has officially defected from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), marking another political boost for the newly formed outfit ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Gachagua announced the defection in a statement shared on his official social media accounts after hosting the MCA at his Wamunyoro residence.
According to Gachagua, Ole Torris, who was elected on an ODM ticket, made the decision after “listening to the ground” and responding to the wishes of his constituents.
“I am delighted to receive the Ewuaso Oonkindongi MCA, Hon. Joseph Ole Torris, into our party, DCP. He was elected on an ODM ticket, but he has obeyed the wishes of his people to defend his seat on a DCP ticket in August 2027,” Gachagua said.
The former Deputy President described DCP as “the party of the moment and the future,” expressing confidence that it has gained widespread acceptance, particularly among the Maa community.
He further pledged that the party would champion the interests of communities that he said have remained marginalized since independence by ensuring they are fully integrated into mainstream government and benefit from accelerated development.
Ole Torris becomes the latest elected leader to join DCP as Gachagua continues to intensify efforts to strengthen the party’s grassroots support ahead of the 2027 General Election.
“The future is Green,” Gachagua declared as he welcomed the MCA into the party.
