Kileleshwa Ward MCA Robert Alai has sparked fresh debate after alleging that former President Uhuru Kenyatta played a behind-the-scenes role in a recent episode of Jeff Koinange Live (JKL), shaping both the guest list and the direction of the conversation.
According to Alai, Uhuru personally called veteran journalist Jeff Koinange, selected the panelists, and gave instructions on how the show should unfold.
The objective, Alai claims, was clear: to carefully polish Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro as a calm, suave, and credible future national leader, while setting up Embakasi East MP Babu Owino for political embarrassment.
Alai alleges that Babu walked into the studio unaware that he was “being paraded for slaughter.”
He claims the discussion was deliberately skewed to push Babu into a corner, prompting what Alai described as absurd and shallow political statements that only resonated with “those living in a fools’ paradise.”
One moment that particularly stood out, according to Alai, was when Babu was asked about his vision for Nairobi.
Instead of outlining concrete policy proposals, Babu reportedly leaned on populist slogans, declaring, “I am the most popular because kama sio Babu, kuna Tabu la Ajabu.”
Alai claims Jeff Koinange laughed and cheered on cue, as allegedly instructed.
“Awuoro mchezo wa taon,” Alai remarked, suggesting that the entire interview was a carefully choreographed political theatre rather than an objective public discourse.
He further added that only those “gifted with the spirit of discernment” could see through what he described as elite political games being played in plain sight.
