President William Ruto is clearly feeling the heat as he scrambles for votes ahead of the 2027 elections.
He’s trying just about everything to win over the Luo community, currently the only solid voting bloc leaning in his favor for a second term.
With the massive Mt. Kenya voting bloc now rallying behind the united opposition led by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Ruto is running scared. He’s dashing left and right, searching for votes to fill the gap left by that once-reliable region.
Now, Ruto and his team are setting their sights on the Luo community. While significant, this bloc is still smaller compared to Mt. Kenya’s numbers.
Since the passing of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga in October last year, Ruto seems to be placing a huge bet on who will step up as the next Luo community kingpin. The region is currently split between seasoned ODM leader Dr. Oburu Odinga and younger, more energetic figures like Raila Odinga Jr., Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino.
With his reelection hopes hanging by a thread, Ruto’s government appears to be clutching at straws. Some believe the state is now trying to buy influence—dangling luxury state resources in front of figures like Raila Odinga Jr., hoping to impress a community that truly appreciates the finer things in life.
Over the weekend, Raila Odinga Jr. was spotted moving around Nairobi in a government-registered vehicle with plates GKC C062 C. The car is estimated to be worth between 17 and 20 million shillings.
Here’s the video showing Raila Odinga Jr. cruising in a GK car—yet he holds no state or elected office.
