Fresh details have emerged regarding the academic credentials of broad-based government activist Roseline Alionya, and the findings have set tongues wagging across social media.
For the past few months, Alionya has been a fixture on television screens, hopping from one station to the next defending President William Ruto and his broad-based government with a confidence that suggested she had the intellectual firepower to back it all up. While there is nothing wrong with defending a government one believes in, Alionya took it a step further by repeatedly bragging about her master’s degree, wielding it like a weapon against opposition leaders and using it to elevate herself above those who dared disagree with her.
However, like forensic investigators leaving no stone unturned, Kenyans on X have done their digging, and what they unearthed has left many people genuinely shocked.
It turns out that Alionya holds a bachelor’s degree specializing in Kiswahili and Christian Religious Education (CRE), obtained from Machakos University. For those unfamiliar, Machakos University belongs to a generation of institutions that sprouted across the country during the devolution era, universities widely regarded as having been created to accommodate students who could not secure admission into the main universities. Nearly every county has at least one, serving as a landing pad for those who fell short of the grades required elsewhere.
The revelation has raised more than a few eyebrows, particularly given the theatrical confidence with which Alionya has been throwing her academic credentials around on national television.
