Mathira Member of Parliament Eric Wamumbi has shared details about how he met his wife, Murang’a Woman Representative Betty Maina, revealing that their relationship began long before either of them entered elective politics.
Speaking during an interview on Obinna TV, Wamumbi disclosed that the two first met before they were elected to Parliament.
What started as a simple friendship gradually grew into a romantic relationship as they spent more time together and got to know each other better.
According to the legislator, there was no rush to begin dating, as their relationship developed naturally over time.
“We met before we joined Parliament. We became good friends, and it developed into what we have today,” Wamumbi said during the interview.
He explained that friendship formed the foundation of their marriage, giving them an opportunity to understand each other’s personalities, values, and ambitions before committing to a lifelong partnership.
Today, Eric Wamumbi and Betty Maina are among Kenya’s best-known political couples, with both serving as elected leaders in the current Parliament.
Their ability to balance public service with family life has continued to draw admiration from many Kenyans.
Their relationship attracted significant public attention in 2023 when they held their traditional wedding ceremony, an event attended by several prominent political figures, including President William Ruto.
Reflecting on their journey during the Obinna TV interview, Wamumbi said their story is proof that strong relationships are built on genuine friendship, trust, and mutual support.
