A video has emerged of New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani declaring that President William Ruto is a “Wantam” president.

“Wantam” is a popular Kenyan political slang term derived from the phrase “one term.” The expression became a widespread rallying cry, particularly among the youth and opposition figures, used to express deep dissatisfaction with the current administration and push for Ruto to serve only a single term in office.

With just months remaining before the 2027 presidential election, Kenyans, especially those aligned with the opposition, have been chanting “Wantam” with growing frequency. The slang continues to gain momentum as frustration mounts over what many describe as a corrupt and poorly governed administration under Ruto.

The New York mayor was captured on camera chanting “Wantam” at an event attended by Kenyans living in New York, a moment that has since stirred significant conversation both in the diaspora and back home.

Here is the video of New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani declaring that President William Ruto will serve only one term come 2027.
