A video has emerged of President William Ruto almost shedding tears during the Madaraka Day celebrations held at the newly constructed stadium in Wajir County.
In his speech, Ruto said he had never shed tears in any previous Madaraka Day celebrations but admitted that this occasion felt different due to the strong emotions he experienced while engaging with the residents of Wajir and the wider Northern Kenya region.
“I have never shed tears in any Madaraka Day celebrations, but today is different. I feel you, I feel this moment, and I feel the people of Northern Kenya,” Ruto said.
He assured residents that the government would continue to walk with them shoulder to shoulder, reaffirming a commitment to unity, shared progress, and a common national destiny for all Kenyans. “I want to assure you that we are going to walk together shoulder to shoulder as one people and one nation with a common destiny,” he added.
This year’s Madaraka Day celebrations were particularly significant, as they were hosted in Northern Kenya, a region that has historically faced development challenges.
This is not the first time Ruto has shed tears. In the run-up to the 2022 presidential election, Ruto, who was then the opposition candidate, was always crying in churches in what many termed a stunt to attract sympathy from voters. After winning the 2022 presidential election, the president has never cried again. And it is only 14 months to the 2027 presidential election that the president has started his usual stunts of crying.
