A Cabinet Secretary has reportedly fallen victim to sophisticated online fraudsters believed to be targeting influential politicians and senior government officials across the country.

According to reports, the cybercriminals obtained phone numbers belonging to top State officials and are allegedly using advanced tricks to hack into their devices and gain access to sensitive information and mobile money accounts.

Sources familiar with the investigations revealed that the unnamed CS lost more than Ksh 500,000 in a carefully coordinated scam.

Detectives suspect the gang could be operating as part of a larger cybercrime network that specifically targets high-profile individuals.

Investigators are now under pressure to identify and dismantle the syndicate before more senior government officials fall victim to the criminals.

The incident has once again raised concerns over the growing threat of cybercrime and the vulnerability of even powerful figures to online scams and phone hacking schemes.

Cases involving online fraud, phone hacking, and mobile money theft are reportedly on the rise, with cybercriminals increasingly targeting both ordinary Kenyans and senior government officials.
