As Gachagua Predicted, Waiguru Launches New Party to Campaign for Ruto in Mt Kenya Region

Kirinyaga County Governor Anne Mumbi Waiguru has officially launched a new party to campaign for President William Ruto’s re-election in 2027.

In a colourful ceremony on Thursday, Waiguru, a prominent Mt. Kenya leader supporting Ruto, unveiled the Daughters of Kenya Party (DKP). The launch attracted about 2,000 women from across the country, highlighting strong grassroots support.

Speaking during the event, Waiguru said she is making a personal sacrifice to traverse the country and rally Kenyans to back Ruto for a second term. She urged citizens, particularly in the Mt. Kenya region, to reject opposition politics, noting that the area cannot afford to be out of government for five years. Waiguru further argued that the opposition lacks a clear strategy and agenda to lead the country forward in 2027.

In addition to campaigning, Waiguru announced a massive mentoring program for women, aimed at encouraging leadership roles in political, private, religious, and civil society sectors. She emphasized that deliberate efforts are needed to protect and advance the gains women have made in leadership, warning that complacency could reverse progress.

Waiguru stressed that reviving a women’s leadership movement is essential to ensure more women step into political leadership. “Unless women across the country rise and claim their space, hard-won gains will be eroded,” she said, emphasizing that leadership is not competition within the home but service at a higher level.

“We are mothers, sisters, and wives, but when it comes to leadership, we are able to multitask,” she said, citing her journey as both a homemaker and a leader who has excelled in public service.

The governor highlighted the importance of gender balance in decision-making, noting that issues uniquely affecting women are best addressed when women are at the table.

Waiguru also pointed to her development record in Kirinyaga County as evidence of effective leadership, saying her achievements across the county should inspire confidence in women’s leadership.

“I have heeded your call to go around the country and rally as many women as possible to support our agenda, but I cannot do it alone,” she said. “I need people to walk ahead of me, beside me, and behind me so that together we can make this country great, with all women fully involved.”
