Fresh details have emerged regarding the murder of city lawyer Edward Kariuki Muthee, whose body was discovered outside his home at Strawberry Crescent Court in Athi River on Sunday morning.
In a statement, the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) Nairobi Branch revealed that the slain advocate was carrying a laptop and a mobile phone when he left his house.
The two items are believed to have been stolen, raising the possibility that robbery may have been linked to the fatal attack.
According to the LSK Nairobi Branch, Edward was found dead at around 6:30 a.m. on Sunday.
The matter was reported to Athi River Police Station, with detectives launching investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding his death.
The branch also disclosed that a post-mortem examination conducted on the body revealed that the advocate sustained a very deep cut to the back of his neck, indicating the brutal nature of the attack.
“It is with the utmost sadness that we have received the news of the brutal murder of our member, Wakili Muthee Edward Kariuki,” the statement read.
The branch further revealed that Ms. Annet Otago, a Council Member and Welfare Secretary, visited the bereaved family on behalf of the Nairobi Branch to offer condolences following the tragic loss.
The lawyers’ body strongly condemned the killing, describing it as a heinous and cowardly act, and called on investigating agencies to carry out thorough, expeditious, and impartial investigations.
LSK also appealed to members of the public with any information that could assist investigators to cooperate with the authorities to help bring those responsible to justice.
Through its Police Liaison Committee, the Nairobi Branch said it is actively monitoring the progress of the investigations and will provide updates as more information becomes available.
The society expressed confidence that the ongoing investigations will establish the circumstances surrounding Edward’s death and ensure that those behind the murder are held accountable.
The LSK Nairobi Branch also extended its heartfelt condolences to the Kariuki family, friends, and colleagues as they mourn the loss of the advocate.
