KASIPUL YESTERDAY, HOW EVENTS UNFOLDED
According to the IEBC calendar,which I have shared below, I was supposed to do my campaigns in West Kamagak where I successfully held my rally at Nyandiwa polling station. On the same note, Boyd Were was supposed to hold his campaigns in West Kasipul, the furthest Ward bordering Rangwe constituency. I had earlier on notified the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on my intention to proceed with my campaigns to North Kamagak, Bong Opiyo chief’s camp, where I was given the green light since top contenders like Money Bior and Boyd Were were not supposed to be campaigning anywhere within Central Kasipul, which hosts North Kamagak.
Unknown to us, Boyd had also organized campaigns within Central Kasipul, around Opondo polling station, hosted by a civil servant, the assistant chief of Nyalenda sub-location Mr. Gumbo, a distance of about 200 meters from the main road connecting West and North Kamagak, a road which my team used.
When my campaign caravan passed with loud music and a fleet of cars, team Boyd, who had just arrived, felt rattled. Goons led by Otis Ras and Pharah left the assistant chief’s home with batons and crude weapons and attacked my convoy. In this melee, shots were fired in the air to disperse them. Some of my vehicles were badly damaged.
A few minutes later, Bruno Ondoro and Ben Ondiegi approached on a motorbike following my caravan’s trail. If you’ve ever been on any campaign trail, you know the speed with which the caravans move, motorbikes cannot catch up with them and will appear ten or so minutes later. They were caught in this fracas and the goons directed them to the assistant chief’s home, a venue where Boyd was holding his so-called consultative meeting.
Once inside the home, beating and hacking started in the presence of Boyd, the host (Mr. Gumbo) and the gathering that attended the meeting. The boys were beaten to death inside the assistant chief’s home. Their blood is in that compound.
How does a wannabe leader allow goons to kill his opponents in his presence? How does a chief, paid by taxpayers’ money, allow killings in his compound? When Boyd attacked Newton Ogada in his hospital, we thought it was going to end but the boy is thirsty, he must quench his thirst.
