Karua Threatens To Drag Ruto To ICC Over “Rigged” Mbeere North And Malava By-Elections

People’s Liberation Party (PLP) leader Martha Karua has warned that she will drag President William Ruto before the International Criminal Court (ICC) in 2027 should he repeat what she terms as electoral misconduct witnessed during the Mbeere North and Malava by-elections.

According to Karua, the government, which was openly backing United Democratic Alliance candidates during the 27 November polls, deployed intimidation, bribery, and hired goons to coerce voters into supporting the ruling party’s aspirants.

Although UDA candidates emerged victorious in both constituencies, the elections were marred by violence and widespread bribery, casting a dark shadow over the high-stakes contests.

Speaking on Wednesday at Nairobi Baptist Church during the memorial service for former Cabinet Minister Joseph Konzolo Munyao, Karua said the by-elections revealed deeply troubling patterns that could not simply be brushed aside.

She argued that the country’s democratic foundation had been shaken, stressing that Kenya now stood at a fragile crossroads and must confront the truth about how the polls were conducted.

“Our country is at a crossroads, and it is up to us to reflect on where we may have gone wrong and what must be corrected. In Mbeere, in Malava, and in all these by-elections, something was terribly amiss,” Karua stated.

Her remarks were echoed by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who cautioned that if President Ruto employs similar intimidation tactics in the 2027 General Election, he may well find himself facing charges at the ICC.
