Cases of boda boda riders snatching mobile phones from unsuspecting Nairobi residents continue to surge, with celebrity photographer Paul Kariuki now emerging as the latest victim of the growing menace.

According to CCTV footage circulating online, the incident occurred in Upper Hill while Kariuki was in the middle of a photoshoot.

The video shows a motorbike rider approaching him at a slow pace, pretending to pass by normally.

As Kariuki remains focused on his phone, the rider suddenly veers sharply toward him, stretches out his hand, and swiftly grabs the device before speeding off.

The entire robbery happens in a split second, leaving Kariuki and those around him stunned and unable to react in time.

The incident has sparked fresh debate over the increasing boldness of motorbike-riding criminals who have turned snatching phones into a full-time operation, especially in Nairobi’s busy commercial districts.

Residents have been raising concerns for months as similar cases continue to be reported in areas such as Kilimani, Westlands, Upper Hill, and the CBD.

Many Kenyans online are now calling for tighter regulation of boda bodas, improved policing, and personal vigilance while using phones in public spaces.

The growing trend has once again highlighted the need for urgent intervention to protect Nairobians from such opportunistic street robberies.
