A Kenyan delegation is set to travel to Russia in a bid to secure the safe return of Kenyan nationals reportedly recruited to fight in the ongoing Russia–Ukraine war.

Belgut MP Nelson Koech, who also chairs the National Assembly Defence Committee, announced that he will accompany Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi on the diplomatic mission to Moscow next week.

According to Koech, the delegation plans to hold meetings with Russian officials as part of efforts to facilitate the repatriation of Kenyans believed to have been recruited into the conflict.

The move comes amid growing reports that hundreds of Kenyan youths may have been lured into the war through illegal recruitment networks, which allegedly promised lucrative salaries and job opportunities abroad.

Concern has been mounting after several families reported that their relatives had traveled to Russia under unclear circumstances, only to later learn they had been deployed to the battlefield in Ukraine.

The Kenyan government has been under pressure to intervene and secure the safe return of the affected citizens, while also investigating the recruitment networks believed to be operating in the country.

The planned visit to Moscow is expected to form part of Kenya’s diplomatic engagement aimed at resolving the issue and ensuring the safety of its nationals.
