President William Ruto has literally allowed goons to take over the country, if what is happening along Outering Road in Nairobi is anything to go by.
Outering is one of Kenya’s major roads, linking Mombasa Road to the Thika Superhighway. The road is usually busy due to heavy traffic from vehicles trying to bypass the CBD while accessing Jomo Kenyatta International Airport(JKIA).
However, an incident was caught on camera on Thursday showing goons taking control of Outering Road the same way Haitian gangs took over Port-au-Prince.
In the video, the goons were seen blocking motorists and demanding money, and if they did not give them any, they threatened to smash the windows of their vehicles. What shocked Kenyans more is that the incident took place 100 metres from the General Service Unit(GSU) headquarters along Outering Road and 150 metres from Thika Road.
The incident is not isolated. Just days earlier, criminal gangs targeted motorists in broad daylight along the Nairobi Expressway, surrounding and looting vehicles on the multi-billion-shilling toll highway.
Kenyans on social media expressed outrage, with many lamenting that the nation’s security situation appears to be deteriorating rapidly and that Ruto had turned Kenya into Haiti’s notorious Port-au-Prince city.
The comparison to Haiti has been made by several leaders, including Siaya Governor James Orengo and UGM leader David Maraga, who warned that Kenya is slowly descending to the state of Haiti, where gangs have seized control of the country.
The lawlessness along Outering Road and other major highways has been growing for months. In June 2026, suspected goons barricaded sections of Outering Road around Kiamaiko Bridge and the Kariobangi Roundabout, robbing motorists and pelting vehicles with stones, forcing many drivers to abandon the route .
Traffic reportedly remained at a standstill for over three hours as the chaos unfolded. In July 2026, suspected goons also blocked Thika Road near Pangani, leaving hundreds of motorists stranded in a major traffic snarl.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has acknowledged that over 100 suspected gangs are operating in the country, allegedly enjoying political influence and engaging in serious offences including drug trafficking, extortion, and land grabbing. Yet despite tough talk from the government, the masterminds behind the violence remain at large, even where their actions have been captured on CCTV. The failure to act has sharpened questions over the erosion of the institutions mandated to restore order.
