A Kenyan man, David Gitonga of Nottingham, United Kingdom, has passed away suddenly after reportedly retiring to bed following an evening spent enjoying a BBQ and Mugithi with his loved ones.
David passed away in his sleep on August 16, 2026.
His wife discovered him after he had gone to bed, and doctors later confirmed that he had suffered a heart attack.
According to the family, David had no known underlying health conditions and appeared fit and well right up until his final hours.
His sudden death has left his wife, children, relatives, friends and the wider Kenyan community in Nottingham mourning the loss of a loved one who was remembered for his life, laughter and warmth.
His funeral will be held on Friday, September 18, 2026.
The church service will take place from 10:30am to 1pm at St. Margaret’s Church, Aspley Lane, Nottingham NG8 5GE.
Burial will follow from 1:45pm to 3pm at Highwood Cemetery, Low Wood Road, Nottingham NG6 7GA.
The wake will be held from 4pm to 11pm at Marcus Garvey Community Centre, Lenton Boulevard, Nottingham NG7 2BY.
The family has requested prayers and support during this difficult period.
The theme colour for the funeral is black with a touch of purple, although this is optional.
Friends and family continue to meet regularly as they make arrangements to give David a dignified send-off.
