A Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officer was shot dead by police officers during an exchange of fire at Covo area near Magunas in Kahawa Sukari.
The deceased, identified as Antony Munene, 33, was among two armed men who were reportedly threatening members of the public when officers from Kahawa Sukari Police Station, who were conducting a routine patrol, received information about the incident.
The officers pursued the suspects and ordered them to surrender.
However, one of the men allegedly drew a firearm and fired two shots at the police, prompting the officers to return fire.
During the exchange, Munene was shot in the chest and right hand.
He was rushed to Ruiru Level IV Hospital in serious condition but later succumbed to his injuries.
Police recovered a loaded Jericho pistol and two spent cartridges at the scene. A search on the deceased also led to the recovery of a KDF identity card.
His body was moved to General Kago Mortuary in Thika pending an autopsy examination.
