Two suspected criminals have been shot dead following a dramatic confrontation with police officers along Juja Road in Nairobi.
According to a police report, the incident occurred on Friday at approximately 7:20 p.m. when officers on foot patrol spotted two men armed with knives robbing a woman who was screaming for help.
The officers immediately intervened, prompting the suspects to flee towards Kosovo slums.
However, as the officers pursued them, one of the suspects reportedly drew a knife and turned towards an officer in an attempt to stab him.
The officer responded by discharging his firearm, fatally injuring the suspect, who was identified by the alias ‘Mafloater’ and described as a known criminal.
A search conducted on him led to the recovery of a mini pistol, a knife and a Nokia C12 mobile phone valued at KSh18,000.
The robbery victim positively identified the phone as her property.
Meanwhile, police launched a manhunt for the second suspect, identified by the alias ‘Chinku’.
At around 11:40 p.m., members of the public alerted police about a dead body lying beside the road in the Kosovo area of Mathare.
Officers from Pangani Police Station, alongside detectives from DCI Starehe, visited and processed the scene.
They established that the deceased was the second suspect who had sustained gunshot injuries during the earlier confrontation and subsequently succumbed.
The two bodies were handled by police as investigations into the incident continued.
