An Administration Police officer based in Ugunja has been arrested in connection with the brutal killing of GSU officer Henry Okello Omondi in Bondo, Siaya County.
The officer, identified as Hezekiah Ojudi, is believed to be one of two masked suspects who stormed Okello’s residence and accessed the bedroom where the slain officer was sleeping with his wife.
According to preliminary reports, the attackers stabbed Okello twice in the chest before dragging him outside the house, where they allegedly assaulted him further, causing injuries to his head and shoulders.
His wife, who was in the house during the attack, was not injured.
The assailants reportedly fled into the darkness immediately after the incident.
Investigators have established that nothing was stolen from the house, raising questions about the motive behind the attack.
The arrest of Ojudi has added a new twist to the case, particularly because he is a blood relative of the slain GSU officer.
Detectives are now working to establish the circumstances surrounding the attack and determine whether the arrested officer was directly involved in the killing or had information that could help unravel the circumstances leading to Okello’s death.
Ojudi remains in police custody as investigations continue, with detectives expected to present him in court once they complete the necessary inquiries.
