The family of veteran gynecologist and obstetrician Dr. Job Obwaka has finally revealed the exact cause of his death.
Dr. Obwaka, who was the chairman of the Nairobi Hospital Board, passed away last week at his girlfriend’s home in Kitengela, Kajiado County. The girlfriend, identified as Beatrice Wangare, is already in police custody. Preliminary police investigations had suggested that the renowned doctor might have been poisoned.
But on Tuesday, after an autopsy was carried out on his body, the family spokesperson, Joseph Ndungu, said the doctor actually died of cardiac arrest.
“The autopsy confirms that Dr. Obwaka died of cardiac arrest. However, a toxicology report is still being conducted to determine the exact cause,” Ndungu explained.
He added that the family is in full agreement with the autopsy findings. Dr. Obwaka, 83, was widely respected for his decades of service in women’s healthcare across Kenya.
His death comes just weeks after he was charged, alongside others, over allegations of falsifying records linked to the Kenya Hospital Association.
