Police have recovered a consignment of cannabis sativa from a vehicle that was involved in an accident along the Chemelil–Miwani–Kisumu Road.
The incident occurred at Ombeyi Junction after the vehicle veered off the road and rolled into a ditch.
Officers from Miwani Police Station responded to a distress call and rushed to the scene, where they established that the ill-fated vehicle was ferrying a consignment of cannabis sativa.
According to police, members of the public had already arrived at the scene and helped the occupants of the vehicle.
However, the occupants later fled before officers could apprehend them.
Police secured and processed the scene before the vehicle was towed to Miwani Police Station for further investigations.
The recovered cannabis sativa was also secured as an exhibit and is awaiting examination and further police action.
Investigations are ongoing to establish the source, intended destination and ownership of the illicit consignment, as well as identify the people involved in its transportation and distribution.
