Citizen TV has moved to address claims of an alleged televised debate on Jeff Koinange Live between former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and former Trade and Investment Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria.
Kuria on Thursday claimed that a debate between himself and Gachagua had been lined up on Jeff Koinange Live, a popular show that airs every Wednesday evening on Citizen TV. He went a step further and posted a promotional poster on social media showing both him and Gachagua ready to face off on June 10, 2026.
However, Citizen TV moved swiftly to shut down the claims. Linus Kaikai, the station’s Director of Strategy and Innovation, took to X to dismiss the poster and the debate claims in no uncertain terms, describing them as completely false.
“This is FAKE and FALSE,” Kaikai wrote, directly tagging Kuria and questioning what was going on his end.
The drama appears to have been sparked by an earlier appearance by Gachagua on Inooro TV on Thursday morning, where the former Deputy President accused Kuria of being behind the hiring of goons responsible for destroying properties in the Mt. Kenya region. Gachagua went further, labeling Kuria as one of President William Ruto’s sycophants who have been assigned the task of dividing the Mt. Kenya community ahead of the 2027 general election.
According to Gachagua, Ruto and his allies have a deliberate interest in keeping Mt. Kenya divided, knowing very well that a united mountain would significantly dim their chances of securing re-election in 2027.
The war of words between Kuria and Gachagua signals deepening fault lines within Mt Kenya politics as the country steadily inches closer to the next election cycle.
