City lawyer Joshua Nyamori has claimed that former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua suffered a major political setback following the recent High Court ruling on his impeachment case, describing the decision as a political “death certificate.”
Speaking during an interview on TV47, the Advocate of the High Court argued that the judges effectively affirmed the legality of the impeachment process carried out by Parliament.
“The court found that Parliament was right in impeaching Gachagua. In addition, the process was complete, and he was handed a political ‘death certificate’, which is the impeachment. Gachagua is politically dead,” Nyamori said.
According to Nyamori, the ruling validated both the National Assembly and Senate proceedings that led to Gachagua’s removal from office, signaling that the constitutional process was properly followed.
The outspoken lawyer added that impeachment carries not only legal consequences but also significant political damage, especially for a leader seeking to remain influential in national politics.
Despite this assessment, Gachagua’s allies insist that the former Deputy President still has legal avenues available, including the option of appealing the judgment at the Court of Appeal.
Gachagua himself has maintained that he remains eligible to vie for the presidency despite the High Court ruling upholding his impeachment.
Addressing the media after the ruling, he expressed confidence in his political future and urged his supporters to remain steadfast.
