An elite General Service Unit (GSU) officer who shot dead his colleague at the Wikithuki Border Patrol Unit training camp in Kitui County has been arrested after a dramatic chase into a thorny bush.
Police Constable Hussein Yusuf Ali was arrested after instructors pursued him for approximately 3 kilometres from the scene of the shooting.
According to a police report from Tseikuru Police Station, officers recovered two mobile phones at the scene, one of which had been damaged by a bullet.
Another mobile phone was recovered from the suspect following his arrest.
The three devices are expected to undergo forensic analysis as investigators work to establish the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting.
Meanwhile, the body of the deceased officer was moved to Chiromo Hospital Mortuary, where it is awaiting an autopsy examination.
The arrest marks a major development in the investigation into the fatal incident at the GSU border patrol training camp.
Police are expected to continue investigating the circumstances that led to the shooting, including what may have triggered the confrontation between the two officers.
