Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has praised the academic credentials of the party’s Ol Kalou candidate, saying the move signals a shift toward electing more educated and competent leaders.
Speaking while unveiling Ngotho as the DCP party candidate at the party headquarters, Gachagua described him as a highly qualified individual capable of offering effective leadership to the people of Ol Kalou.
“I am happy with the quality of candidate DCP is presenting to people of Ol Kalou. He is a graduate of Agricultural Economics from the University of Nairobi,” Gachagua said.
The former Deputy President noted that the party was committed to fronting candidates with strong academic and professional backgrounds, arguing that such leaders are better placed to address the challenges facing wananchi.
In remarks that appeared to target some leaders allied to the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA), Gachagua took a swipe at politicians he accused of lacking competence and seriousness in leadership.
“It is the first step of getting away from Tugeges – the Kawanjikus, Wamakeki, Wamafocho, Wamatinga, Wamacukuru…,” he said during the event, drawing reactions from supporters.
Ngotho previously worked at the Office of the Deputy President before Gachagua’s impeachment.
He is expected to face stiff competition from the UDA candidate in the upcoming by-election.
