Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has alleged that Tourism Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano has temporarily left her office in Nairobi and set up another office in Ol Kalou to campaign for the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate, Samuel Muchina, ahead of the upcoming by-election.
Speaking during a press briefing, Gachagua accused the Cabinet Secretary of actively participating in the campaign, claiming she is now operating from Ol Kalou instead of her official office in Nairobi.
According to Gachagua, the deployment of State officials to the campaign trail raises concerns about the fairness of the electoral process.
He also challenged the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), calling on its Chairperson, Erastus Ethekon, to take action against public officials he claimed were engaging in political campaigns.
“Rebecca Miano has actually left her office and set up another office in Ol Kalou, where she is now working from. Mr. Ethekon, before you threaten to cancel the election because of voter bribery, can you summon these State officers and pull them out of Ol Kalou?” Gachagua said.
The former Deputy President further urged the electoral commission to ensure a level playing field for all candidates by enforcing election laws impartially.
