A nominated Member of the County Assembly (MCA) from Nyamira County is facing mounting scrutiny following allegations that she faked illness to obtain sick leave, then relocated to the United States where she is now reportedly living and working while still drawing a salary from the county.
The MCA, identified as Edna Obara, was nominated by the UPA party, which is associated with Governor Amos Nyaribo.
According to claims circulating online and from sources within the County Assembly, Obara requested time off on medical grounds and travelled to the U.S. for what was described as specialized treatment.
However, she never returned to Kenya.
It is now claimed that she secured employment at Dold Foods LLC in Wichita, Kansas, and continues to earn an income there while also receiving her monthly salary and allowances from the Nyamira County Assembly.
Reports further allege that her husband is a U.S. citizen, and that during her stay abroad, she and her children obtained U.S. visas, allowing them to settle there.
Multiple sources within the assembly have also alleged that Speaker Nyabaro is aware of the situation, with suggestions of possible complicity.
