The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has released images of individuals believed to be key suspects in the torching of a Mazda CX-5 along Thika Road during Monday’s protests.
In a statement shared on X, the DCI said detectives are currently analysing viral video footage linked to the incident as investigations intensify.
“This incident not only endangered lives but also resulted in significant property damage, and investigations remain active,” the agency stated.
According to the DCI, detectives are following crucial leads aimed at identifying and arresting all those involved in the criminal act.
The agency has appealed to members of the public to help identify suspects captured in the footage and provide any information that could assist investigators.
“The DCI urges members of the public who may recognise any individuals captured in the footage or possess relevant information regarding the incident that may aid ongoing investigations to share the information promptly at the nearest police station or through the #FichuaKwaDCI hotline,” the statement added.
The National Police Service reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining public safety, protecting property, and ensuring individuals who take advantage of protests to engage in criminal activities are held accountable.
The vehicle burning incident occurred during demonstrations over rising fuel prices and the increasing cost of living, with several areas experiencing unrest, looting, and destruction of property.
