Chesumei Member of Parliament Paul Biego is counting heavy losses after his truck worth over KSh 20 million was torched during demonstrations over the rising cost of fuel.
In a statement shared on his Facebook page, the UDA legislator expressed pain and frustration after the Mercedes-Benz Actros 3340 truck was destroyed in Naivasha during the protests.
According to Biego, the truck had safely delivered maize flour from Eldoret to Kanini Haraka Wholesalers before it was allegedly targeted by individuals who identified it as coming from the North Rift region.
“Imagine the sheer heartbreak of watching years of your life’s work vanish in a single moment of lawlessness,” Biego wrote.
“Because of the lawlessness during today’s uncalled-for Maandamano, my truck worth over KSh 20 million, an Actros 3340, was completely destroyed in Naivasha simply because the perpetrators identified that it was from North Rift,” he added.
The MP described the truck as more than just a vehicle, saying it symbolized years of sacrifice, hard work, and sleepless nights.
“This is not just a truck. It represents years of sleepless nights, relentless sacrifice, and honest hard work,” he stated.
Biego further claimed there appeared to be a coordinated targeting of vehicles and trucks from the North Rift region during the unrest.
“What’s more heartbreaking and deeply unsettling is that there seems to be a coordinated active targeting and monitoring of vehicles and trucks from North Rift in this ongoing violence,” he said.
The legislator lamented that many livelihoods had been destroyed during the protests, leaving families vulnerable.
“My heart is heavy and the pain is deep. Seeing the honest labor of citizens destroyed in an instant is utterly heartbreaking,” he added.
The demonstrations over rising fuel costs were marked by unrest in several parts of the country, with reports of looting, destruction of property, and clashes between protesters and police.
