Calvince Okoth, popularly known as Gaucho, has finally spoken out after his appointment as a board member at Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital, expressing deep gratitude to key political figures and the community that has supported his journey.
In a heartfelt message, Gaucho said he was “deeply humbled and filled with gratitude,” singling out Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja for the opportunity and for believing in his potential.
According to him, the appointment marks a turning point in his life and opens a new chapter filled with purpose and responsibility.
He also extended his appreciation to President William Ruto for giving him the chance to serve, aligning his story with the government’s Bottom-Up economic model, which emphasizes uplifting ordinary citizens.
Gaucho noted that his journey is proof that young people from humble beginnings can rise to positions of influence.
Gaucho also thanked the family of the late ODM leader Raila Odinga and the broader “broad-based arrangement,” claiming they had supported him long before his appointment.
He recalled a promise made to him three years ago by Raila, that efforts would be made to secure him a role, and said that promise has now been fulfilled.
Gaucho further acknowledged government officials who reached out to congratulate him, saying their support reinforced his commitment to serve diligently.
He also addressed the youth and residents of informal settlements who have stood by him over the years.
He dedicated the appointment to them, emphasizing that his achievement belongs to the community.
“This appointment is yours. If I can come this far, then every young person in the ghetto can rise,” he said.
