Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has penned a heartfelt message to veteran journalist Yvonne Okwara following her exit from Citizen TV, praising her contribution to journalism and revealing the special role she played in his media journey.
In a message shared on his X account, Sifuna wished Okwara all the best in her next chapter, describing her as one of the finest journalists to have graced Kenyan television.
The outspoken senator also recalled their interactions on Citizen TV’s The Explainer, saying he thoroughly enjoyed their conversations on the programme.
“I really loved our little talks on the Explainer. You are one of the best to ever do it,” Sifuna wrote.
He further revealed that Okwara gave him his first television appearance more than 13 years ago, a gesture he said he would always remember.
“I won’t forget you gave me my first appearance on TV over 13 years ago. Forever grateful, God bless!” he added.
Sifuna’s message highlighted the seasoned journalist’s influence beyond the newsroom, with the senator acknowledging the role she played in giving him an early platform on television.
The senator was a regular guest on The Explainer, a weekly Citizen TV programme hosted by Okwara, where the two discussed a wide range of current affairs and national issues.
Their interactions on the show gave viewers an opportunity to hear Sifuna’s views on matters affecting the country, with Okwara steering discussions on politics and other topical issues.
Okwara’s exit from Royal Media Services has attracted tributes from colleagues, political leaders and viewers, many of whom have celebrated her contribution to Kenyan journalism over the years.
