The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has issued a fresh update on the investigation into the fatal shooting of prominent clinical psychologist Dr. Victoria Nthunya Mutiso, confirming that two persons of interest are in custody as detectives intensify efforts to crack the high-profile murder case.

Dr. Mutiso was gunned down on July 29, 2026, in Nairobi’s Upper Hill area, a shocking incident that sparked widespread outrage and calls for a swift investigation.

In a statement released on Thursday, the DCI said homicide detectives, supported by specialized investigative and forensic teams, have made significant progress since taking over the case.

According to the agency, investigators have been pursuing multiple leads through witness interviews, forensic analysis, and targeted operations aimed at identifying those responsible for the killing.

As part of the ongoing probe, detectives conducted searches at premises linked to persons of interest, leading to the recovery of exhibits believed to be crucial to the investigation.

The recovered exhibits are currently undergoing detailed forensic examination as investigators seek to establish the full circumstances surrounding Dr. Mutiso’s death.

The DCI confirmed that two persons of interest are in lawful custody and are being interrogated as investigations continue.

Detectives are also carrying out additional investigative actions, including analyzing the recovered evidence and pursuing other critical leads that could help unravel the motive behind the fatal shooting.

The DCI reaffirmed its commitment to conducting a thorough, impartial, and expeditious investigation to ensure that everyone found culpable is brought to justice in accordance with the law.

The agency also conveyed its heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of Dr. Victoria Nthunya Mutiso and thanked members of the public for their continued cooperation and support as the investigation progresses.
