Detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) and the Transnational Organised Crime Unit (TOCU) have arrested two suspected drug traffickers following a successful intelligence-led operation along the busy Nakuru-Nairobi Highway.
According to a statement shared by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the operation was launched after detectives received intelligence reports linking the suspects to alleged drug trafficking activities.
Acting on the information, the officers mounted an ambush in Limuru targeting a white Toyota Hiace that was travelling from Kakamega to Nairobi.
The detectives intercepted the vehicle and conducted a thorough search, leading to the recovery of two black bags containing bales of cannabis sativa.
The narcotics had reportedly been carefully wrapped using yellow cellotape in an attempt to conceal them from authorities.
The owners of the bags were identified as Kiligwajjo Ashirafu and Misanya Suzan, both Ugandan nationals.
The two suspects were immediately arrested and taken into police custody.
They are currently being held at Muthaiga Police Station as detectives finalize investigations ahead of their arraignment in court.
Meanwhile, the recovered narcotics have been detained as exhibits as investigations continue.
