President William Ruto is reportedly leaving no stone unturned in his quest to fragment the Mt Kenya voting bloc ahead of the 2027 General Election.
After allegedly falling out with his former deputy, Rigathi Gachagua, Ruto is said to be spending countless hours strategising on how to weaken the unity of a region that commands an estimated six million votes.
The President is well aware that Mt Kenya played a decisive role in his 2022 victory, contributing nearly 47 per cent of the total votes that propelled him to State House. For that reason, sources close to the political corridors say he has now resorted to planting loyalists and political operatives within the region to divide the electorate before the next polls.
Speaking during a church service in Kirinyaga County on Sunday, Gachagua alleged that Governor Anne Waiguru had been directed by President Ruto to form a new political party aimed at splintering Mt Kenya’s support base.
“Waiguru is planning to form a party to divide Mt Kenya. It is another of Ruto’s wheelbarrows. The Head of State has many wheelbarrows in this region, and I will expose them,” Gachagua declared.
The former Deputy President accused Ruto of orchestrating a deliberate plan to weaken Mt Kenya’s political influence by sponsoring leaders to start rival movements under the guise of “broadening democracy”.
As tensions between Gachagua and Waiguru intensify, political analysts warn that the emerging rift could reshape the dynamics of Mt Kenya politics and significantly impact the 2027 presidential race.
