A Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) engineer was found dead in a hotel room in Malindi, Kilifi County, while on a work trip with colleagues from Lamu.
According to an OB report, Bernard Gladstone Wangusi had checked into Malindi Pearl Hotel in Malindi Central at about 6:15pm on Thursday, September 3, together with his colleagues.
Wangusi was later found unresponsive in the bathroom of Room 6 on Friday morning.
His driver reportedly went to wake him up at around 9:50am ahead of a scheduled trip to Malindi Airport when he found him unresponsive.
The matter was reported to police, who arrived at the hotel alongside Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) personnel from Malindi.
Investigators documented the scene and observed that Wangusi had no visible physical injuries.
Treatment notes reportedly recovered from the scene from the Aga Khan University Hospital indicated that Wangusi had been receiving treatment for diabetes.
His body was subsequently moved to Malindi Star Hospital Mortuary, where it is being preserved pending an autopsy to establish the cause of death.
Police investigations into the circumstances surrounding his death are ongoing.
The autopsy is expected to provide further information regarding what may have caused Wangusi’s death.
