A Nairobi hotel operator has recounted how she allegedly lost customers after publicly expressing support for President William Ruto’s bid for re-election in the 2027 General Election.
The woman, who runs a hotel in Nairobi, said some customers stopped patronising her business after learning of her political position.
According to her account, some customers responded to her support for Ruto by telling her to seek money directly from State House rather than expect them to spend money at her establishment.
The incident has drawn attention to the potential impact of political differences on everyday business relationships, particularly as campaigning and debate over the 2027 presidential race continue to gain momentum.
The woman’s account centres on her support for Ruto’s re-election under the slogan “Tutam”, commonly used by the President’s supporters to advocate for him to serve two presidential terms.
She suggested that her political stance had affected her relationship with customers who disagreed with her position.
Her experience highlights the tensions that can arise when political loyalties spill over into commercial spaces, where business owners depend on customers from different backgrounds and with differing political opinions.
The video captures the woman explaining her experience and describing the reactions she says she received from customers.
