Five suspects believed to be members of criminal gangs have been arrested in Likoni, Mombasa, following a security operation conducted by police officers.

The suspects- Brian Musa (24), Abubakar Mahasi (20), Juma Kassim (16), Omar Gobeko alias Mboga (19), and Jackson Mwambu (26)- were arrested in different parts of Duduz and Buffalo areas by officers from Shelly Beach Police Station.

According to police reports, the operation was part of an ongoing crackdown targeting criminal gangs in Timbwani following public complaints about rising insecurity in Duduz, Buffalo, and Magwangwani areas.

Authorities said three machetes and a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) smoke jacket were recovered during the operation.

Investigations are ongoing to establish whether the suspects are linked to other criminal activities reported in Likoni and its environs.

The five have since been processed and are expected to be arraigned in court on charges including robbery with violence, preparation to commit a felony, and possession of government stores.

Likoni Sub-County Police Commander Joseph Mutungi confirmed the arrests, noting that operations to flush out criminal elements in the area are ongoing.
