-Ugandan authorities have arrested a 23-year-old mechanic from Eldoret, Kiprotich Victor, and 41-year-old driver Okongo Joseph of Amagoro, Tororo District, after they were found with a Kenyan lorry suspected to have been stolen.
The vehicle, which had been driven across the border, was recovered on September 11, 2026, at around 10:30 a.m., after Ugandan traffic police were alerted about the stolen lorry.
Police ambushed the suspects as they drove along the Mbale-Kamonkoli-Pallisa Road. The two were arrested and taken to Pallisa Police Station together with the truck, which was bearing Ugandan registration number UAQ 893X.
Bukedi North Police spokesperson Kyempasa Wilfred said police established that the vehicle had been stolen from Kenya.
Further investigations established that the lorry’s original Kenyan number plate, KCF 540N, had been removed and replaced with the Ugandan plate UAQ 893X.
The vehicle had been reported stolen at Katmosi Police Station vide OB 07/2026.
Kyempasa added that, according to the suspects, they had been instructed to drive the vehicle to Soroti and hand it over to another person known to them.
