Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has made explosive claims regarding the death of Rachel Wandeto, alleging that she was targeted after reportedly contradicting a narrative being pushed by senior Government officials.
Speaking during an interview on Inooro TV, Gachagua claimed that the decision to eliminate Wandeto was allegedly made after Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen and Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja visited her while she was hospitalized.
According to Gachagua, the officials had earlier linked her injuries to remarks he allegedly made about “killing a snake and its eggs,” a statement that had generated political controversy.
However, Gachagua alleged that Rachel gave a different account of the incident during the visit.
“The decision to kill Rachel Wandeto was made after Murkomen and IG Kanja visited her and she contradicted their earlier narrative that she was burnt by people who were following Gachagua’s remarks,” he claimed.
He further alleged that Rachel informed the officials that the attack was motivated by money and not politics as had been suggested publicly.
“Rachel had told Murkomen that it was because of money that she was burnt and not what they were pushing in the media,” Gachagua stated.
The former Deputy President also claimed that controversial Kikuyu gospel singer Ngaruiya Junior had allegedly been targeted as part of a wider scheme to portray him as being hostile to supporters of President William Ruto in the Mt Kenya region.
“Ngaruiya Junior was also targeted to be killed in order to further the narrative that I am against people who are supporting Ruto in Mt Kenya,” he alleged.
Gachagua went on to warn politicians and individuals supporting President Ruto to be cautious.
“All these people who are supporting Ruto should be very careful with the Ruto administration,” he said.
The Government is yet to respond to the serious allegations made by the former Deputy President.
