COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli has claimed that former President Daniel arap Moi once reprimanded former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua over allegations of mistreating members of the Kikuyu community during his time as a District Officer (DO).
Speaking during a public meeting, Atwoli said he personally witnessed the incident at State House Nakuru, insisting that those who were present have not forgotten what transpired.
According to Atwoli, Gachagua was employed as a District Officer in Njoro in 1989 after graduating from the University of Nairobi.
At the time, Atwoli was still serving under President Moi’s administration when Gachagua secured the position.
Atwoli alleged that during the 1992 tribal clashes, President Moi summoned Gachagua to State House and reportedly reprimanded him over claims that he was mistreating members of the Kikuyu community living in Njoro.
He further claimed that he personally attended the meeting because of his close ties with Moi and because he was vying for an MP seat under the KANU party ticket.
“I was present at State House Nakuru when the late President Daniel Moi called out Rigathi Gachagua for mistreating Kikuyus. We have not forgotten and our silence should not be mistaken,” Atwoli stated in a video posted on his X account.
The outspoken COTU boss further vowed that he still has a lot to reveal to the public regarding Gachagua’s tenure as a District Officer.
