ODM party leader Dr. Oburu Odinga has been noticeably absent from several major party events recently, sparking speculation that he might be seriously unwell.
Over the weekend, the 83-year-old Oburu missed a high-level ODM meeting held at Sarova Whitesands in Mombasa. The gathering brought together 90 MPs, 13 governors, Cabinet secretaries, and the party’s National Executive Council.
Their goal was to craft a unified approach for negotiations with President William Ruto’s coalition and to heal internal rifts.
Conspicuously missing was Dr. Oburu Odinga, who sent Kisii Governor Simba Arati to represent him, given that he serves as ODM deputy party leader.
The meeting is part of ODM’s wider activation drive aimed at strengthening the party’s structures and expanding its grassroots reach. The retreat focused heavily on unity, inclusivity, and a strategic direction that leaves no member behind.
That’s why Oburu’s absence raised so many questions—he was expected to be right at the forefront of the discussions.
As Kenyans continue to wonder about Oburu Odinga’s health, fresh details have emerged suggesting that he is indeed feeling unwell and is currently receiving treatment abroad.
The exact nature of his illness remains unclear for now, but we’ll share more details in our upcoming articles.
For context, Oburu took over as ODM party leader following the death of his brother, the late Raila Odinga. Raila passed away last year in October and was laid to rest in a state funeral presided over by President William Ruto.
