Police are searching for a suspected phone thief who allegedly posed as an Akorino faithful before stealing a high-end mobile phone worth Ksh 75,000 from an unsuspecting online seller.

According to reports, the suspect contacted the victim after spotting an advert for the phone on Jiji and expressed interest in purchasing the device.

The two reportedly agreed to meet at a hotel along Thika Road to complete the transaction.

However, during the meeting, the suspect distracted and confused the seller before disappearing with the phone.

The victim is said to have realized moments later that the suspect had vanished together with the expensive device.

Fortunately, CCTV cameras installed at the premises reportedly captured clear images of the suspect, which are now being circulated online as police intensify efforts to trace and arrest him.

Members of the public with any information that may assist investigators have been urged to report to the nearest police station.

The incident has also served as a reminder to Kenyans engaging in online buying and selling to exercise caution when meeting strangers for transactions.
