President William Ruto seems to be having sleepless nights over the meteoric rise of Linda Mwananchi leader Edwin Sifuna. This is after the President, who toured Bomet County on Wednesday, kept mentioning the name of Sifuna, who is also the current Nairobi Senator.
With Ruto clutching the last straw towards his re-election, political gods seem to be favouring Sifuna as the pole opposition candidate who will challenge the current head of state in 2027.
In the last six months since he was removed as Orange Democratic Movement Secretary General, Sifuna has created a formidable political bandwagon that is making seasoned politicians like President William Ruto envy him.
Speaking in Bomet County on Wednesday, President William Ruto accused Sifuna of using witchcraft to endear himself to the masses.
“Sifuna rudi kwa Sponsor na Waganga wako wakupee agenda. Hii Kenya hakuna watu wajinga. You are brainless,” Ruto said.
This is not the first time the President has used witchcraft to murky the name of his political competitors. In the run up to the 2022 presidential election, Ruto, who was competing for president, used witchcraft to taint the name of late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga. Funny enough, after winning the 2022 presidential election, Ruto invited late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga to form a broad based government.
The President’s remarks have sparked debate on social media, with many Kenyans questioning why a sitting president would resort to such language against a political opponent.
Sifuna has not yet responded to the President’s accusations, but his supporters have dismissed them as desperate attempts to undermine his growing influence.
