Migori Senator Eddy Oketch has hinted that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) could be seeking the Deputy President’s position ahead of the 2027 General Election, suggesting that the party is likely to remain in President William Ruto’s camp if the current political arrangement continues.

Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV, the first-term senator said ODM has not been presented with a more attractive political agenda than the one currently being advanced by President Ruto.

According to Oketch, the party is therefore expected to stick with the President as he seeks a second term in office.

“No one has convinced ODM that there’s a better agenda out there than the one the President has. So, ODM will stick with him towards the re-election,” Oketch said.

The senator further stated that should the political partnership between ODM and President Ruto endure until the 2027 polls, the party would expect to secure the Deputy President’s position as part of the arrangement.

“And if that is the case, ODM will have the Deputy President position because that will be an anchor,” he said.

Oketch’s remarks come amid growing political debate over whether President Ruto will retain Kindiki on the 2027 ticket following reports that the Kenya Kwanza administration has suffered a significant decline in support in the vote-rich Mt. Kenya region.
