Detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) and the Transnational Organised Crime Unit (TOCU) have arrested a suspected drug trafficker and recovered a consignment of cannabis sativa during an intelligence-led operation along the Maai Mahiu-Naivasha highway.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the operation was launched following a tip-off regarding a truck suspected of transporting narcotics.
Acting on the intelligence, detectives set up an ambush along the Longonot stretch of the busy highway and intercepted a Scania truck bearing registration number UBN 042.
A thorough search of the vehicle led to the discovery of three bales of cannabis sativa that had been cleverly concealed inside the truck’s cabin and toolbox in an apparent attempt to evade detection by law enforcement officers.
The driver of the truck, identified as Daniel Musubo, a 40-year-old Ugandan national, was immediately arrested at the scene.
The truck, together with the recovered narcotics, was escorted to Muthaiga Police Station, where the exhibits are being held as investigations continue.
Musubo is currently in police custody awaiting processing and arraignment in court.
Authorities have indicated that the vehicle and the seized drugs will form part of the evidence in the ongoing case as detectives seek to establish the source and intended destination of the narcotics.
