Doctors at Kenyatta National Hospital have successfully carried out a highly delicate emergency surgery on a young construction worker who sustained devastating pelvic injuries after being pierced by two steel reinforcement bars during a workplace accident.
According to the medical team, the metal rods entered through the back and exited through the front leaving the patient with severe pelvic fractures and extensive soft tissue injuries.
Despite the horrifying nature of the incident, the man miraculously survived after the rods narrowly missed major blood vessels and critical pelvic organs.
The life-saving operation demanded rapid response, precision and coordinated expertise from a multidisciplinary team of specialists.
The procedure was spearheaded by Dr. Victor Bargoria together with anaesthesia expert Dr. Muchiri P.V.
Doctors successfully removed the steel rods and the patient is currently in stable condition while recovering under close medical supervision at Kenyatta National Hospital.
